London is where the majority of UK agency spend happens. Shoreditch, Soho, Farringdon, Southwark, King's Cross. Every pocket of central London has agencies crammed into converted warehouses and co-working spaces. The sheer number of shops here means there's always something going, whether you're after a massive network agency or a 12-person indie doing brilliant brand work.
The trade-off is well known: salaries are higher but so is rent. A junior digital marketing exec might start around £25k-£28k, while a senior PPC or SEO manager can pull £50k-£65k. Account directors and heads of department regularly hit £70k-£90k+. If you're a developer, especially full-stack or with React/Next.js experience, you'll have agencies fighting over you.
London agencies also tend to offer more hybrid flexibility now than they did pre-2020. Plenty of roles are two or three days in the office, which opens things up if you live a bit outside the centre. The competition for good candidates is fierce, so agencies are getting better at pay, benefits and flexibility to attract the right people.
London's got everything from WPP and Publicis group agencies down to two-person startups. The strongest hiring tends to come from mid-size independents, 20-100 people, who are growing fast and need good people quickly.
