Monks is a global, digital-first brand operating at the intersection of creativity, technology, and culture. We create integrated experiences, campaigns, content, platforms, and brand systems for some of the world’s most ambitious companies.
We’re looking for an Art Director to join our APAC Hub team based remotely in Kuala Lumpur, supporting AUNZ and wider APAC markets. This role sits between design craft and creative leadership, making it ideal for a senior creative who has evolved from strong executional design into conceptual art direction.
You’ll help shape visual territories, lead campaign thinking, guide designers, and bring modern creative workflows into the way we work. At Monks, we expect creatives to embrace emerging technologies and technology-enabled workflows as part of contemporary creative practice.
Develop compelling visual concepts and creative territories across integrated campaigns, social, branding, digital, and content experiences.
Translate strategy and creative direction into visually engaging narratives and scalable design systems.
Create mood boards, mock-ups, presentations, and visual explorations that bring ideas to life.
Push creative thinking beyond the brief by introducing new approaches, references, and contemporary visual culture.
Present and articulate creative ideas clearly to both internal teams and clients.
Guide and mentor designers across projects while helping elevate overall creative quality.
Collaborate with Creative Directors and cross-functional teams to shape creative direction across multiple workstreams.
Provide feedback and creative oversight throughout concept development and execution.
Help maintain consistency across campaigns, platforms, and regional adaptations.
Maintain a high standard of visual craft across digital, social, branding, campaign, motion-aware, and experiential outputs.
Oversee and hands-on with design, typography, composition, imagery, and visual storytelling across multiple formats and touchpoints.
Ensure concepts are scalable and production-aware across channels and markets.
Integrate AI-powered creative tools into ideation, visual development, workflow efficiencies, and creative exploration while maintaining originality and quality.
Apply strong creative judgement when evaluating AI-assisted outputs and emerging creative technologies.
Support production teams with clear creative intent and thoughtful handoff processes.
Help improve creative processes, efficiencies, templates, and collaborative workflows.
Balance creativity with operational thinking in fast-paced environments.
Explore evolving workflows and emerging technologies that improve both creative quality and team efficiency.
Contribute to scalable ways of working across distributed teams and markets.
6–8 years of experience across design, campaigns, branding, social, and digital creative environments.
Strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking, art direction, and high-level craft execution.
Proven ability to lead visual development from idea through execution.
High proficiency across Figma, Google Slides, and the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
Strong understanding of digital platforms, integrated campaigns, social-first storytelling, and motion-aware design.
Ability to guide designers and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent communication and presentation skills with fluent English proficiency.
Strong understanding of creative systems, scalability, and production workflows.
Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities in fast-moving environments.
Familiarity with AI-powered creative tools and emerging technologies such as ChatGPT, Midjourney, Firefly, Runway, Veo, Figma AI, or similar platforms.
Experience working across APAC markets.
Automotive, luxury, technology, or lifestyle brand experience.
Motion or film production knowledge.
Experience working within distributed global teams.
Strong visual opinions backed by strong craft.
Creatives who think beyond execution and influence creative direction.
Curiosity, experimentation, and continuous evolution.
Collaborative people who elevate the work and the team around them.
A modern mindset toward technology-enabled creativity and innovation.
Individuals who combine creativity, systems thinking, and cultural awareness.
