Role Overview
The HRIS Team Lead is both a hands-on Workday expert and a people leader, responsible for guiding a small team of HRIS analysts and administrators. You will set the direction for day-to-day system operations, mentor team members, prioritise workloads, and serve as the senior point of escalation for complex Workday HCM issues. This role requires a balance of deep technical knowledge and the interpersonal skills to coach, develop, and support a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of HRIS Admins, providing regular 1:1s, performance feedback, and career development support.
Assign and prioritise team workloads, ensuring tickets, projects, and operational tasks are handled efficiently and within SLA.
Act as the primary escalation point for complex Workday issues the team cannot resolve independently.
Foster a collaborative, learning-oriented team culture with clear standards for quality and documentation.
Contribute to hiring decisions, onboarding, and upskilling of new team members.
Workday Technical Ownership
Oversee technical support for all Workday HCM modules, ensuring system issues are investigated and resolved promptly.
Lead and coordinate bi-annual system upgrades, including planning, testing, and feature analysis to ensure smooth transitions.
Serve as the organisation's senior subject matter expert for Workday, guiding system strategy, security, and governance.
Gather and translate business requirements into effective Workday configurations, driving system enhancements end-to-end.
Oversee the quality and accuracy of HR data entered and maintained in Workday across the team.
Governance & Process Improvement
Define and maintain team standards for documentation, including system configurations, processes, and procedures.
Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) efforts, including scenario identification, test script development, and stakeholder coordination.
Ensure compliance with data security and governance best practices across all HRIS activities.
Identify and drive system and process improvements that support operational excellence.
Stakeholder Partnership
Build strong relationships with HR, Payroll, IT, and business stakeholders to understand needs and deliver effective solutions.
Communicate system changes, outages, and enhancements clearly to affected teams.
Represent the HRIS team in cross-functional projects and leadership discussions.
Must Haves
3+ years of Workday Admin experience, including at least 1 year in a senior or lead capacity.
Hands-on experience across Workday HCM, reporting, talent, absence, benefits, and compensation modules.
Proven experience leading or mentoring a team, with the ability to delegate, coach, and manage performance.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex escalations.
Excellent prioritisation, time management, and stakeholder communication skills.
Comfortable operating in a global organisation with cross-functional responsibilities.
Nice to Have
Experience with EIB / Mass uploads.
Workday Pro Certification in one or more modules.
Experience hiring and onboarding HRIS talent.
Familiarity with HRIS project management and change management practices.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
A typical week in this role will include:
Running 1:1s and team standups to manage workloads, unblock team members, and review ticket queues.
Reviewing and approving HR data changes, corrections, and supervisory organisation updates in Workday.
Handling escalated tickets and complex Workday issues requiring senior-level resolution.
Collaborating with HR and business stakeholders on system enhancements and requirements gathering.
Maintaining and improving team documentation, processes, and system governance standards.
Leading upgrade cycles, UAT planning, and new feature rollouts across Workday modules.
Ensuring data security compliance and contributing to HRIS strategy conversations with senior leadership.
